Current Obsession: Blue + Burgundy
On how these two have been dominating my work and my personal life lately.
Hi Studio Mates,
You know what ‘method acting’ is, right? Wikipedia explains: “a technique of acting in which an actor aspires to complete emotional identification with a part”. Well, I’m pretty sure I’m a ‘method colourist’. Sometimes colour combos suddenly enter my life, and I incorporate them in everything. Everywhere I look, I see my new favourite combination, and then the message becomes clear: I need to start using this combo for my illustrations!
This particular colour crush (blue + burgundy) started when I was biking through Westerpark. I saw a woman wearing a navy bomber jacket, paired with burgundy trousers, and bright red beanie. Love at first sight! With the colours, I mean. This happens to me all the time though: people in the streets of Amsterdam are my number one fashion inspiration.

I thrifted a vintage Puma track jacket from 2006 in navy and light grey. I wore it with my burgundy biker shorts to yoga class. The woman next to me wore a burgundy turtle neck, paired with navy Adidas joggers. I complimented her with the lovely colour combo. She smiled.
The next day I worked on a book cover. The client asked me to use a vintage style colour palette, but that could kind of mean anything. So, I thought it was a great excuse to use my new favourite colours. Which they loved by the way! I paired them with creme/buttery yellow, to make it look even more vintage:
